about me

Andrew Dent

I'm a front-end developer with 3 years of experience building web applications. I specialize in building high-performance, accessible, and SEO-optimized websites using React, Next.js, and TypeScript, along with CMS platforms like Sanity and Shopify.

I bring the same mindset to web development as I do to creating music: keep it simple, support the bigger picture, and approach everything with intention. I care about details, collaboration, and creating something that feels right.

my story

Originally from Maryland, I've always felt drawn to the mountains, coast, and forests of the Pacific Northwest. After years of traveling out here whenever I could, I eventually relocated and now call Vancouver, Washington home.

I first got into web design in the early 2000s, customizing MySpace layouts and making websites and merch for the bands I played in. That mix of creativity and problem solving stuck with me, even as I followed a different path for a while. I ran a car related business for years, which taught me what it really takes to serve customers well: clear communication, efficient systems, and delivering without excuses.

My previous experience with running a service business led me back to the web, where I started building websites and e-commerce setups for other business owners. Eventually, I made the leap to coding full-time and have since worked with dozens of small businesses, and more recently as a frontend developer on several teams.

In my free time, I love to cook, hike, travel, and make music. I'm always learning something new, whether it's through building side projects, watching documentaries, or diving into a new interest.

what I value

Simplicity

Simple doesn't always mean easy. I believe in reducing complexity with intention, refining ideas down to what truly matters. Less, done well, is more.

Iteration

Nothing great gets built in a vacuum. The most important insights come after something exists in the real world. I believe that shipping quickly, learning from feedback, and improving things continuously results in the most progress and best products.

Collaboration

Great products are built by great teams. I believe the best solutions come from combining diverse viewpoints into a clear direction.
